El advenimiento de técnicas no invasivas como el ecoDoppler (duplex) obliga a realizar investigaciones a los efectos de determinar los alcances del método y definir sus indicaciones. Analizamos acá 35 mapeos venosos de miembro superior por flebografía y duplex comparando sus resultados para los diferentes sectores venosos. Concluimos que para el sector húmero-axila-subclavio el duplex presenta su mejor performance pudiendo detectar trombosis con una sensibilidad de 100%, una especificidad de 97%, un valor predictivo positivo de 50% y negativo de 100%. A nivel de los ejes superficiales (radial y cubital superficial, cefálica y basílica) la sensibilidad a efectos de determinar la presencia y permeabilidad del eje es baja pero la especificidad es de 100%. El duplex no demostró utilidad en describir los trayectos venosos a efectos de determinar su aptitud para la FAV. Finalmente se realizan recomendaciones en cuanto a la indicación de estos estudios paraclínicos.
